Tonight’s dinner serves two purposes. My friend L and I haven’t seen each other for a while. And I missed her birthday celebration a few weeks ago. To me, friends connect best around food. Cooking up a tasty meal is my classic way to treat a good friend; dinner is frequently the best canvas for a colorful conversation. It wasn’t an easy task to figure out how to consume 22 lbs. of cherries as my husband and I did last weekend. Well, we didn’t eat them all by ourselves. Between distributing them to friends, making jam out of them, and snacking a few, it turns out it’s not difficult to go through that many cherries. This weekend turned out to be perfect for cherry-picking in Brentwood, CA. It wasn’t too hot, and there were a few clouds in the sky to help provide some shade every now and then. Cherry orchards are open to public for picking only from May to June here in northern California. The exact dates could vary every year. It’s one of those cheerful Saturdays that I feel completely relaxed. I’m in a colorful state of mind this morning, perhaps because I had a good workout at the gym. Or maybe it’s because I realize I will be a dinner guest at my friends’ house tonight. Translation: no work, all play.
